Some Tips on Dog Care
Most dog owners will do everything to make their dog healthy and happy. As a dog owner, you regularly walk your dog and feed him, bathe him and groom him. You might not be aware but there are a number of things more that you should not neglect. If you do not give attention to these things, it can prove harmful to your dog. I have listed a few important ones.
Dental care is one of the few things dog owners might neglect. It is common for dogs to suffer some form of dental diseases at a very young age. It really takes much more than giving your dog healthy puppy treats and looking out for gum diseases. A dental check-up done by a trained professional will help expose and correct other dental problems like decaying or cracked teeth. Your dog’s dental care should start while he is still a puppy, if you want to avoid serious dental issues when he grows up. Don’t postpone gum and dental care because he will become susceptible to diseases.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush for his teeth and gums. Brush the front teeth then gradually move into his mouth making sure you also brush his gums gently.
It comes as a surprise to many that dog owners actually forget about fleas, which is so common but easily preventable. The problem with fleas is that they cause skin allergies, so even a little flea infestation can turn into a serious one. Fleas can often be prevented by first understanding what attracts them and what repels them. What attracts fleas are warm and humid surrounds and what repels them are cold and dry ones. If you can’t avoid the heat and humidity, especially during summer and fall, there are flea creams or chewy tablets you can buy for your dog’s skin protection.
There are also natural treatments you can use on normal days. Homemade concoctions and essential oils are also helpful to use as they don’t contain chemicals that can affect your dogs coat.
It is in your dog’s nature that he will dig into any sort of food that you give him. Your dog’s health has probably suffered harm because of the poor quality food that you give him.
Some popular brands of food has also caused concern because of their manufacturing procedures and the quality of ingredients they put into their dog food. Sometimes it can pass as legal in some countries for poor quality meat, from sick animals, to be put in dog food. Sometimes, even if the meat is good, the heat that it goes through in processing destroys any nutrients left in it.
You should be aware of these things.
